1. First, open the ITR (Income Tax Return) e-filing website –  https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/

2. As you are the first time user then click on the ‘Register Yourself’ button/link provided at the top right-hand corner of the website. Fill in all the appropriate details and create a user ID and password. For generating a user ID you will require a valid email address and contact number. Please assured you provide the correct email address and contact number as information by the department will be transmitted on this. Finish your registration by clicking activation link forwarded through email and providing OTP {One Time Password} got on your contact number.

If in case you have previously enrolled on the website, you just require clicking on ‘Login Here’ button mentioned there. For every other assistance/help, you can directly click on the ‘Customer Care’ tab to get the guidance from their customer care center.

3. Enter your enrolled user ID i.e. your permanent account number (PAN), your selected password, your accurate DOB (Date of Birth) {as mentioned on the PAN card} and captcha code to securely log in to the website.

4. Once you log in, a dashboard will initiate where you require to click on the ‘e-file’ tab and choose the ‘Prepare and submit ITR online’ option.

5. Next, you can pick the assessment year and appropriate ITR form for which the return has to be filed. You can also prefill your complete address –

a) From PAN database

b) From former return filed.

c) You can add the new address.

You also have a selection to digitally sign your return. Click on the ‘Submit’ button once you are satisfied.

6. After clicking submit, the page will redirect to the form selected by you. Before beginning to fill the ITR form, you should see the ‘Instructions’ and ‘General Information’ given in the first two tabs of the form. Next, fill the tabs having Income details, Tax details, Taxes paid and verification and 80G.

7. Once you have fulfilled all the relevant data, click on ‘Preview and Submit’. Review your data once and then click on ‘Submit’ button upload your return. Next, you will be requested to verify your return using any of the selections available.

8. At the final step, you will be asked to upload your digital signature in case you have registered for it. Upload your digital signature and click on ‘Submit’ tab to complete your ITR filing process.

9. However, if you have not enrolled for digital signature, you will require verifying your return either electronically using Aadhaar OTP or EVC {Electronic Verification Code} system or by sending a signed print out of the ITR V to CPC, Bengaluru within 120 days from the date of e-filing.

10. Once your ITR is treated by IT department, you will be intimated about the same via email and SMS on your recorded mobile number.
